SUPPLY BETTER THAN YEAR AGO. Business is at a standstill, the de- mand being very slow, but with all that, it is seasonable and quite as good as last season at this time. The supply of flowers is better than a year ago, there being a greater variety of roses and the general line available at this season shows improvement. The topic throughout the trade is the great for- eign disturbance and its effect on busi- ness generally, and particularly our own. The demand for stock coming into the supply houses is increasing daily, the retail florists gradually w-ak- ing up to their wants and the position it will place them if they allow certain stocks to get low. The supplymen, in their caution, are conserving their stock as much as possible, and he is a good customer who gets his order complete. Prices have already com- menced to soar, chiffons advancing al- most 100 per cent, Cycas orders are being filled in small installments, or- ders calling for 100 being cut down to M. Berkowitz, of the Bayersdorfer says : "We are no better off than last week. The situation grows worse instead of better and in trying to re- plenish stocks from importing houses in New York and elsewhere we find they are all alive to the situation and prices have risen in consequence from 20 to in some instances 100 per cent.
