Neither House would agreeto the bill passed by the other, and a confer-ence committee failed to devise any measureacceptable to both, so that no change wasmade in the existing STATE SEAL OF LOUISIANA. Among the acts passed during the sessionwas one apportioning the representation in theLegislature among the various districts of theState, and one submitting several amendmentsto the constitution. The first amendment limitsthe expenses of tlie General Assembly to $ per year, and fixes the salary of the mem-bers of the Legislature at $5 a da]. and theirmileage at twenty cents a mile; the secondprovides that all bills must be signed by theGovernor five days after their reception byhim during the session, or become laws; andthat all bills not signed by him twenty daysafter tlie session shall become laws; the thirdabolishes the parish judges, and confers theirjurisdiction on the district judges; the fourthreduces the salary of the Governor from $8,0C0to $6,000 a year; the fifth prohibits the takingof any fees by the Auditor of State, StateTreasurer, Attorney-General of the Stat
