To provide a reasonable amount of comfort for the milker the stalls must have ample width and the end posts of the partitions should be set about one foot from the edge of the gutter. Solid wood partitions or closely meshed wire and iron partitions, afford too much sur- face for lodgment of dust. Moreover, solid wood par- titions obstruct a free circulation of air. The simpler the partition the more desirable. Stalls and ties like those shown in Figs. 19 and 20 answer all the requirements in a satisfactory manner.
