Rows of stone Jizo statues at Hase-dera Temple, Kamakura, Japan
The jizo statues are placed here by parents who have lost babies due to abortion, miscarriage or still-born. The staues remain here for a year and are then replaced. Hase-dera temple is a Buddhist temple which houses one of the largest wooden statues in Japan, the statue of Kannon.
