The Bethphage Stele in the Franciscan Catholic Church of Bethphage, the fresco on it depicts Jesus Christ's meeting Martha sister of Lazarus whom Jesus revived in Bethany, not far from here, it was painted on this cube like stone by the Crusaders in the 12th century, the stele was part of a 4th century Byzantine church that comemorated the revival of Lazarus in nearby Bethany on the ruins of which the Crusaders built their Bethphage Church commemorating the revival of Lazarus in Bethany. The church of Bethphage is where the yearly Palm Sunday procession starts going to the Jerusalem Old City, tradition says Jesus Christ used the Bethphage Stele here on Mount Olives to mount a donkey to ride on it to the Temple Mount the Sunday before his crucifixion.
