An apartment building in Sarajevo's Old Town remains damaged from the 1992-96 Serbian siege of the city. The city center was shelled and left in ruins and some buildings remain destroyed to this day as under the UN brokered peace, destroyed buildings must be restored to their original Austro-Hungarian architecture. The siege of Sarajevo was the longest since the Second World War and took the lives of 13,000 of it's inhabitants.
