In 1788 he settled at Travelers Rest, in Ken-tucky. From 1792 to 1796 he was Governor of Kentucky, and in1813 he joined General Harrison in his campaign against theIndians. In 1818 he was a Commissioner with General Jack-son to treat with the Cherokees. Shelby County, in Kentuckyand a college in Shelbyville were named in his honor. He diedin Lincoln County, Kentucky, on July 18, WASHINGTON. George Washington was born at Bridges Creek, on the Poto-mac River, February 22, 1732. At the age of nineteen he wasappointed Adjutant General of one of the districts of Virginia,with the rank of Major. At the age of twenty-one he was sentby Governor Dinwiddle to visit the French in the OhioValley on an important mission.
