Angiography. Medical technician (lower right) guides an angiography machine from a control room while surgeons (upper left) perform an operation. Angiography involves injecting a radio-opaque contrast medium into the blood to highlight the vessels in X-ray images. This technique is used to ascertain the health of blood vessels and isolate any narrowings (stenoses) or blockages, as these can lead to tissue damage (ischaemia) or death as a result of restricted blood supply.
