Percy Frankland (1858-1946), English chemist and microbiologist. Frankland was the son of Sir Edward Frankland (1825-1899), an organic chemist. Frankland gained his PhD in 1881 from Wurzburg University. He went on to become second Professor of Chemistry at the Uinversity of Dundee between 1888-1894 before moving to the University of Birmingham, where he was made Emeritus Professor in 1919. His work on water purification and improvement gave the UK drinking water better than most of Europe's.
