The Sint-Janskerk on the Vrijthof in Maastrict's old city
The Sint-Janskerk is a Protestant church built in the 14-15th century in the Gothic style. It is made of Limurgse mergel. It has gone under many restorations. During the latest restoration in 1981-1985, the tower was given its current red colour. This church is located on the Vrijthof, standing side by side with the Roman Catholic St Servatius Basilica, forming what for the Netherlands is a unique “kerkentweeling” (church twin).
