Atacama Pathfinder Experiment (APEX) and star trails, time-exposure image. APEX is a radio telescope located at an altitude of 5100 metres above sea level, at the Chajnantor Observatory in Chile's Atacama desert. The dish has a diameter of 12 metres. Star trails are formed by the apparent motion of the stars in the sky as the Earth rotates on its axis. Photographed in November 2011.
