All theships boats—pinnaces, barges, cutters, launches,and gigs—were marshalled into three squadrons ofthree divisions each ; each division comprising acertain number of boats, half of which were armedwith howitzers. The whole boat-flotilla was placedunder the command of a senior officer ; while eachsquadron and each division was headed by an officerbelonging respectively to that squadron or divisionof ships.
