Heart-lung machine during coronary artery bypass surgery. The machine takes over the function of the heart and lungs during the operation, allowing the heart to be stopped. In this operation, sections of veins are used to bypass narrowed or blocked coronary arteries. These normally supply the heart muscle with oxygenated blood.
