While the target of this cartoon is not clear, Darwin returned from his Beagle voyage surveying the Pacific in 1836 and had regaled many with his tales of terrible sea sickness on board the ship. Some have even blamed his life-long stomach condition on the extended period of sea-sickness he faced on the five year voyage - though it seems unlikely."
