Under the call of February 1, 1864, by the President of theUnited States, for 500,000 men, Chester County filled her quota inlarge part by re-enlisted men and volunteers. One hundred dollars of themoney was paid in cash, and |250 was given in county bonds. Ifanyone preferred all cash, be was paid . in that way, a dis-count of five per cent, being charged for the payment of the | entire amount of the bounty paid reached somewhere betweenP50,000 and |400,000. Quite a number of colored men joined theranks under this call, and were highly pleased at the receipt of theGreenbacks, so large a pile of which they had never before commissioners said, after experimenting with tliis method ofIaisiug the countys quota, Chester County is the first in the Stateto fill her quota, and of course it was said with no little satisfac
