Lower jaw of a blue whale, a remnant of the whaling industry, in the center of the village of Schiermonnikoog. Schiermonnikoog ( island and village bear the same name ) is one of the West Frisian islands in the Wadden Sea, Friesland, The Netherlands. The blue whale was captured in 1950 in the Southern Ocean by Captain K. Fisher of the MS Willem Barendsz., a fish processing vessel. He donated the jaw to the island of Schiermonnikoog.
