The outerend of the strainer is closed with a hinged lid of ^4-- wiremesh, soldered to a light brass wire frame. A slot in the sideof the tube is provided to take the latch formed on the endof the wire lid frame. In order to provide sufficient springfor the proper operation of the latch, about two inches ofthe frame at the latch end of the wire is left unattached tothe netting.
