NYC Subway Construction, 1917


The IRT being constructed under Eastern Parkway in 1917. The Brooklyn Museum is in the distance and beyond it Grand Army Plaza and Prospect Park. The Dual Contracts, signed on March 19, 1913, were for the construction and/or rehabilitation and operation of rapid transit lines in the City of New York. The contracts were were signed between the City and the Interborough Rapid Transit Company and the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company, all working together. The IRT Eastern Parkway Line was built from 1915 to 1918, from the section east of the Atlantic Avenue station to Utica Avenue and down the Nostrand Avenue Subway to Flatbush Avenue.
