Geyser. A geyser is a hot spring that periodically ejects steam and water. Beneath a geyser, water is superheated above boiling point by geothermal energy. Once a critical temperature is exceeded, water at the bottom of the geyser begins to boil, forcing out first steam and then water. Photographed on Firehole Lake Drive, in the Lower Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA.
