Foundation of wicker, the back of which iscovered with dark green, quilted vallance to Pocket and finish to backare of green silk. The pattern is workedwith Raised Satin Stitch, outlinedwith gold thread. One shade of crim-son silk is used Tor the embroidery, andthe fringe is of green and crimson silk. Plate No. 259. Box Pincushion. Foundation, an old cigar box, lined with satin. The lid of the box is then well stuffed toform a Cushion, and covered with blue cashmere, while a wide flounce of blue silkconceals the sides of the box, and a ruching of blue ribbon the opening. Theembroidery for the top of the Cushion is worked on cream cloth, and is shown inworking size in Detail No. 260. To work the embroidery : Trace it on the cloth,and line with Toile ciree. Buttonhole round the centre star and each scallopwith blue silk, and work plain Bars with the same silk, as shown, cutting thefoundation cloth from beneath them. For the flowers, work in Railway Stitch,Coral, and French Knots, and with two shades of blue silk.
