Computer-generated topographical view of Sif Mons, a volcanic feature on the surface of Venus. This image was derived from radar and altimeter data gathered by the Magellan radar-mapping spacecraft whilst in orbit around the planet. The view is from the northeast toward the southwest. Sif Mons is 2km high and 300km in diameter, located within the 2,300km by 2,000km rise in the western Eistla Regio region. A series of bright lava flows is seen spreading 120km from the peak. The lava is relatively rough, and was formed during recent volcanism from highly fluid material. It is thought that the Eistla Regio itself was formed by an upswelling of hot material within the planet.
