Mr. Williams received his first instruction in artat the Cooper Union in New York, where heattended the night classes. Then, for a time, hestudied under John Ward Stimson, and finallyhe was enrolled at the National Academy ofPesign as a student. Of recent years he has made-several trips abroad, visiting the great galleriesand sketching in the open, but that is all, andthough the quality of his work shows steadyadvancement his style has varied little. Thisfact is notable, inasmuch as Mr. Williamss land-scapes and figure paintings are distinctly reminis-
