Kalachakra mandala painting


This Kalachakra Mandala was painted in Kathmandu Nepal in the Kalachakra Tantra (kala: time, chakra: wheel) is a Buddhist meditation practice. The Buddha appeared as the deity Kalachakra in Amaravati, South India and taught the tantra at the request of King Suchandra of the legendary realm of Shambhala. The Kalachakra was one of the last tantric systems to be brought to Tibet from India. Mandalas are used as objects of meditation.
