Electronics Position Indicator. Personnel from the Coast Guard Icebreaker Northwind establish an Electronics Position Indicator Station at Mercy Bay, Banks Island, Canadian Northwest Territory. Mercy Bay lies about half way the distance through McClure Strait, which the Northwind entered from the west two days before this scene was taken. Marking an historical achievement, the vessel is the first to traverse the previously impassable Strait west to east from the Arctic Ocean (August 13 - 21, 1954).
