A pen and ink sketch of South Shields market place Shields is a coastal town at the mouth of the River Tyne in the North East of England in what has been termed Catherine Cookson Country (after the late author of that name) . The present day church (St Hilda's), is said to stand on a monastic site. The Town Hall was built in 1768. Though here are different definitions of what constitutes a Geordie, residents of the town , as Tynesiders, are considered Geordies
