Caption: Dzongchen, Sichuan, China - Aug 2003. Tibetan Khampa's enjoy a game of eightball in Dzongchen, a small town at the base of the Chola Shan mountain range that once was the site of the biggest Nyimga monastery in Eastern Tibet. Completely destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, Dzongchen was rebuilt, gaining momentum in recent years as Chinese students wanting to learn Buddhism flock there. Contacts with the outside also brought other influences, including this pool table. Although the surface is torn and uneven, herders come down from the mountains just to play.
