A pine tree is dying from the effects of the mountain pine beetle dendrotonus ponderosae in Rocky Mt Nat l Park Rocky Mountain National Park RMNP founded by act of the US Congress in 1915 contains 72 named peaks above 12 000 feet in elevation including the tallest mountain peak in Colorado Longs Peak at 14 259 feet The park located next to Estes Park CO has five visitor centers and is traversed by the Trail Ridge Road US highways 34 and 36 Over 3 million visitors travel to the park annually to experience diverse mountain terrain wildlife and recreation
