Burned snow gum trees, Eucalyptus pauciflora, below the summit of Mt Stirling, Victoria Australia, at about 1300m above sea level. These trees were killed four years previously by the Black Saturday bushfires of 2009. Fires at exposed elevations such as this burn at high temperatures and kill trees to ground level. In this picture there is considerable regeneration of new shoots from lignotubers below ground level
