The Tasman Glacier, one of the largest outside thePolar seas, is like a colossal cascade of ice, more than amile wide. It is a beautiful sight, and one that can be ob-tained fairly easily. From the Ball Hut, the first resting-place, one can proceed the next day up and across thegentle slope of ice for another eight miles to the MakeBrun Hut.
