Plate, ca. 1760, Chinese, for British market, Hard-paste porcelain, Diameter: 9 in. ( cm), Ceramics-Porcelain-Export, The Oxford botanical garden was founded by Henry Danvers, Early of Danby, in 1632 (1573–1644). It was situated south of Magdalen college on land formerly used as a burial place for the Jews. In 1622, Danvers conveyed five acres of land to Oxford University for the encouragement of the study of physics and botany
