This painting by Rossetti, titled Ecce Ancilla Domini, was painted in 1850 and is housed in the Tate Gallery.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882) was an English port, illustrator, painter, and translate. Rossetti is credited as a founder of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Among his works are The Daydream, Dante’s Dream, Astarte Syriaca, and Beata Beatrix. This painting, titled Ecce Ancilla Domini, was painted in 1850 and is housed in the Tate Gallery. It was first exhibited in 1850 at the “Free Exhibition” in Portland Place. It was very slightly retouched in 1873 for the then owner, Mr. Graham. It is rightly considered the most typical of Rossetti’s “Pre-Raphaelite” period.
