Ahir Grandma, Kutch

Kutch is a large district in North-West Gujarat, with a population of only 2 million. It is inhabited by a variety of ethnic groups who have managed to preserve their traditions. Ahir are an ethnic group who have long cherished the tradition of bravery and warfare. Now, they live in small tile roof houses with adequate space for housing cattle. They are skilled cultivators and landlords. While young women have colorful elaborate costumes, older women are fond of wearing black dresses.
