A Nepal police official helping an injured protester during of devotees and riot police clashed when devotees tried to start the procession of Rato Machindranath chariot. The chariot made in Pulchowk of Lalitpur has been held on for months because of government orders not to celebrate any annual festivals due to fears over the spread of the coronavirus. The statue is normally pulled around the city for a month. Police officers in riot gear blocked the protesters when they moved the chariot, dousing them with water cannon and tear gas.
