The grave of John Ruskin, who died at his home, Brantwood, of influenza on 20 Jan 1900. His grave is marked with a large carved cross made from green slate from the local quarry at Tilberthwaite. The cross was carved by Miles, to a design by Collingwood, who was an expert on Anglo-Saxon crosses, with symbols depicting important aspects of Ruskin's work and life. The section depicted is on the South side of the cross and shows the Parable of the Vineyard for 'Unto This Last'.
