A plaque near the entrance to St. Francis Xavier Church in Ban Yuan area, Bangkok, Thailand, honoring French missionary Maurice Gibarta (1821-1886)


According to other sources, Maurice Gibarta (actually Perre-Maurice G.) was born in 1822. From 1857-67 he administered St. Francis Xavier Church, which was originally built in 1834, destroyed in a storm in 1837, and re-built from wood. In 1867, the current concrete structure was inaugurated.
