LieutenantSlocumb with Charles Hooks and others had been in hotpursuit of the Tories and returned home ignorant ofthe fact that Tarleton was in possession of the faithful slave warned them that a thousand men werewithin pistol shot, and, although seen and pursued, theywere able to make their escape.
