Thewalls are built of very large stones, beveled andfinished similar in all respects to the most ancientparts of the temple enclosure at Jerusalem; indi-cating the high antiquity of the structure, and thatit was built by the same people, and the same classof builders as the temple of Solomon. No Christian is allowed to enter this building; butat the left of the principal entrance of the Ilaram isa small hole in the massive wall througli which theJews are permitted at certain times to look into theinterior, and here they may be seen wailing and read-ing prayers.
