So endedthis comedy of war, which, however, was meantseriously enough. Welsh shawls that will wear for ever are stillmade at Fishguard, which has had for long areputation for homespun. The town enjoys theprivileges of an old borough. It was built, youwill observe, in two halves : known locally as the town and the lower town. The latter, whichis probably the older of the two, explains theWelsh name Abergwaen, since it lies at theaber or outlet of the little Gwaen river, enclosedin a sheltering sea-cwm. The bank brings the bicyclist off hismachine, and makes the average Fishguard horse. THE CASTLE, NEWPORT, PEMBROKESHIRE.
