The spraying should be thoroughlydone before the buds swell in the spring. Livers of Sulfur.—The chemical name is potassium three ounces of the powder in ten gallons of water. Thematerial should be well stirred before using, and may be used atany time desired. It is a specific against mildew on plants in greenhouses. SPRAY MATERIALS TO PREVENT DISEASE 307 Lime-sulfur.—This preparation is used abundantly in the controlof San Jose scale, either as a winter spray or as a summer spores of fungous diseases are largely killed when this spray isapplied. If orchard trees, for example, are sprayed with lime-sulfur during the winter the spores with which the spray comes incontact are killed. This aids materially in the reduction of thedisease during the following growing season. There are several forms of lime-sulfur prepared.
