AVERAGE DETENTION OF CARS—1913. Of a total of 29,478 cars reported to the demurrage bureau by eleven westernroads during one month, the average layover or detention time was as shown onthe above diagram. The average detention was days up to October,1912. Asa result of doubling the demurrage charge, the detention time has been decreasedto two and one-half days since that time.
