Marine Capt. David Andrews, the officer in charge (OIC) of t Marine Detachment – Southern Partnership Station, attached to Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Southern Command (SPMAGTF-SC) escorts Marine Col Michael H. Oppenheim, the commanding officer of SPMAGTF-SC and Colombian Naval Infantry Lt. Col. Erick Del Rio, the deputy commander of SPMAGTF-SC through the project site while informing them of the progress they have achievement during their short time in country in Escuintla, Guatemala, October 15, 2019. The Marines, with SPMAGTF-SC are working with the Guatemalan military as part of a Southern Command humanitarian assistance project coordinated with the government of Guatemala to build temporary housing for people left without homes after Volcan de Fuego erupted in early June. The Marines and sailors of SPMAGTF-SC are conducting security cooperation training and engineering projects alongside partner nation military forces in Central and South America. The unit is also on standby to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the event of a hurricane or other emergency in the region.
