Island of Rameshwar connects main land of South India by long road and railway bridges over sea was built in early 1900s.


Pamban railway bridge with drawbridge over the sea connecting Rameshwar and main land India are the longest in India; Rameshwar is one of the most important pilgrimage destination of India. During Ramayana period as Lord Ram stayed in Rameshwar for some time it became a 'dham' and it is one of four main 'dhams' of India where Hindu pilgrims go for their final wishes and prayers.
