Discovery's final launch being watched by NASA Administrator Charles Bolden (born 1946). This launch took place at 16:53 EDT on 24 February 2011, from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. Bolden, the head of NASA, is watching from the firing room with other management team members. Discovery was part of NASA's Space Shuttle program. It flew 39 missions over a period of 26 years, being retired from service in March 2011. This launch was part of its final mission, STS-133, which took place from 24 February to 9 March 2011. Bolden, a former NASA astronaut, has been NASA Administrator since 2009.
