The oldest established steamship company in the United States, having commencedregular communication between Boston and the landings on Penobscot River in the yearJ824, which it has maintained with constantly increasing facilities for more than 70 years. The steamers now in service are: City of Bangor, Penobscot, Mount Desert,Lcwiston, Rockland During the summer (or from the middle cf June to the first of October), steamersleave Boston at P. M. and Bangor at I A. M., daily, except Sunday. From October 1st until late in December three passages a week are made; in the win-ter there are two steamers a week, and upon departure of the ice in the spring four trips aw^eek are made. The regular landings on Penobscot River and Bay are: Bangor, Hampden, Winter-port, Bucksport, Searsport, Belfast, Camden, and Rockland.
