White House Ruin, Canyon de Chelly, Arizona: Anasazi cliff dwelling (roomblocks) & lizard petroglyph. Rooms in the sandstone cliff were reached by wooden ladders from the roofs of the multi-storey pueblo on the canyon floor. A village of 100 or more people in use c AD1060-1275. The canyon walls consist mainly of De Chelly Sandstone formed from dunes some 200 million years ago during the late Permian Period. View looking N taken from canyon bottom.
