He said that he learned from the bone that we would have a mild, open winter followed by a cool, late spring. I told him that I supposed that if the crocuses bloomed outdoors before Easter, he would insist that the bone prophecy was right. He said that he had not said that flowers would not bloom early outdoors, bnt that there would be late frosts and to be sure to write down the goose bone prophecy, as I was an unbeliever in goose bones and would try to dis- credit the wonderful exactness of their weather forecasts.
