The Luftbrückendenkmal outside Tempelhof airport is a memorial to the airmen and groundcrew who died during the Berlin Blockade. Known locally as Hungerharke (Hunger Rake), the memorial honours the 70 airmen and 8 ground crew who died during the Berlin Airlift in 1948-49 which operated from Berlin's Tempelhof airport. The memorial represents the three air corridors that linked Berlin with the outside world and forms half a bridge (the other half is in Frankfurt).
