Operational maintenance checks of twin 1200kw synchronous generators turned by a Francis turbine of small scale hydro scheme

Garrogie small scale hydro scheme near Fort Augustus, Scottish Highlands. Area is 8 miles from Loch Ness and the River Fechlin flows from Loch Killin The water runs off the river weir using an intake grid chamber and through a 2 5 kilometer buried pipeline to the powerhouse and onto a turbine generator The electricity generated is dependant on the volume and flow of water from the river A tailrace returns the water to the main stream, Opened 2006. The generation of this clean electricity will help prevent an annual release of many tonnes of the main greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, which is a major contibutor to global warming and climate change.
