Since 1880 the acreage devoted to cotton in this countryhas more than doubled, while that of corn has increasedonly 50 per cent, and that of wheat 30 per cent. Con-sumption has advanced more rapidly than production, how-ever, and the resources of the growers are taxed to meetthe ever-increasing demands.
