Light micrograph of hypertrophic heart cells. Hypertrophy of cardiomyocytes (heart muscle cells) is a pathologic finding in the heart, usually due to excessive long -term strain on the heart. The hypertrophic heart cells have enlarged nuclei (dark blue-purple) that are irregularly shaped. The volume of the heart muscle’s cytoplasm (dark pink) is also increased. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 200x when printed at 10 centimetres.
